Former longtime Broomfield Chief of Police, Tom Deland, (Ret.) passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. Chief Deland was a member of the Broomfield Police Department for 37 years, 23 of which he was Chief of Police. He led the BPD as it transformed from a small town operation, to a large department serving both the City and County of Broomfield. Chief Deland's accomplishments were endless. After his retirement in 2014, Chief Deland continued to be active in the department and the community, most notably in his dedicated service with the Broomfield Rotary.
He knew everyone and everyone knew him. To say he loved his hometown would be an understatement.
He was a loving husband and proud father, but his favorite role was being "Poppy" to 4 beautiful grandchildren. Tom was preceded in death by his Son, Tommy Carmine Deland, and his parents; Marie Deland and Thomas Deland. Tom is survived by his wife, Linda Deland, his Daughter, Michelle Deland-Strongwater (Paul), and his Son, Joseph Deland (Maryann).
A Rosary will be held on Thursday, February 10th, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Broomfield. A visitation and viewing will follow from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. that evening.
