Paul Roger Murdock, age 73, of Westminster, CO was born on March 3, 1950, in Johnson City, New York. He passed away unexpectedly on May 24, 2023. He was the eldest child of Burton C. and Sylvia L. (Christensen) Murdock, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by Terri Lewis, his wife of 30 years; identical twin daughters Sarah E. Murdock (Dean Sears) of Johnstown, CO, and Emily C. Murdock of Washington (state); their mother, Glenda Boatz, of Loveland, CO; and 3 siblings: David Murdock (Susan Manley) of Ft. Myers, FL, Joy Rothdiener (John) of Bolivar, MO, and Jane Murdock of Bolivar, MO. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Caimen and Addilyn, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Paul grew up a pastor’s son in Ambler, PA and Clayton, N.J. before moving with his parents and siblings to Lakewood, CO. In his youth, he excelled at sports and music. As a boy he was a Little League star, and in high school he lettered in baseball and football. At an early age he began piano lessons. This was the start of a lifetime passion for piano, leading to great achievements in composing and performing. In 1972 he earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Hastings College, Hastings, NE. Paul considered it a great honor whenever his music had the power to move his audiences to tears, which happened often.
After college, Paul taught piano to innumerable students. In addition, he also accepted a position at Jefferson County Public Library (Lakewood, CO), which led to a long, illustrious career in librarianship. His specialties were in cataloging, automated systems, and administration. The skills he gained in these areas also served him well at Colorado Christian University (Lakewood, CO) and Arapahoe Community College (Littleton, CO).
A keen outdoorsman, Paul greatly enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking. He loved the mountains, and often reminisced about a climb he made up Long’s Peak in Colorado. He was also a talented gardener, reveling in the beauty of flowers. His yards were lovely havens at every home he lived in.
Paul Murdock was smart, kind, funny, gentle and supremely talented. As a loving father, son, husband, brother, and friend, he will be very greatly missed.
