Patricia Rau Obituary

Patricia Ann Rau (Sullivan), died Wednesday September 9, 2020, at the age of 91 in Louisville, Colorado.

She was born in Hubbell, MI on February 10, 1929 to the late Adele (LaFortune) and John Sullivan. Pat attended Flint Northern High School and met her future husband, Ronald C. Rau, while roller skating at the former Flint Park rink.  Pat and Ron married on October 16, 1948, at St. Agnes Church in Flint, MI.  Pat and Ron were married for 67 years prior to Ron’s death in 2016.

Pat was an excellent daughter, sister, wife and mother.

Pat is survived by her five children: Suzanne (Ken) Peters, Michael (Rophena) Rau, Deborah Rau, Ronald Jr. (Cheryl) Rau, and Jane (John) Lippmann. She will also be remembered and mourned by her grandchildren: Ryan Peters, Kyle Peters, Charles Rau, Elizabeth Rau, Michael Rau, Hannah Rau, Julianna Lippmann and Henry Lippmann. Pat enjoyed having three great-grandchildren: Ryan Peters, Jr., McClure Peters and Finley Peters. Pat is also survived by a sister, Jean (Betty) Baker.

Pat was an accomplished baker, homemaker and card player.  Her family always had a homemade dessert for dinner, and she was a fierce competitor at both Gin Rummy and Euchre.  She also enjoyed crocheting, playing Bingo and visiting Las Vegas and local casinos. Her favorite sports team was the Detroit Tigers and she followed them faithfully. Pat and Ron were members of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and then All Saints Catholic Church, both in Flint.  She took a wonderful Alaskan Cruise and had memorable family celebrations on her and Ron’s 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries.  With retirement, came a move from Flint to Standish MI.  There, Pat made many new friends and enjoyed attending and participating in activities at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Ladies’ Auxiliary.

Pat faced an Alzheimer’s Disease diagnosis later in life. Many thanks from her family to the staff at Juniper Village—Louisville and Elevations Hospice who cared for Pat.

A memorial service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
