Lois M. Hoops Obituary

Lois, age 94, was born on December 9, 1930 near Glenvil, Nebraska to William Wenske and Elsie Anna Dumke Wenske. She passed away peacefully in Lakewood, Colorado on April 7, 2025 surrounded by her family with love.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Hoops, and her seven siblings. She is survived by her two children, Tim Hoops (his wife Linda Sue) and Cindy Boatright (her husband Mark); her 5 Grandchildren, Heather Hoops, Heidi Eng, Hilary Hoops, Nick Boatright and Chris Boatright; and 5Greatgrandchildren (with one on the way).

Lois was raised on a farm in Clay County, Nebraska and graduated from Clay Center High School in 1948. She attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa where she met her husband, Victor Hoops. Lois and Victor were married on Christmas Day, 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Clay Center, NE. Following Victor’s graduation from Wartburg and Seminary in Columbus Ohio, Lois and Vic settled in Dodge City, Kansas.

In 1961, Lois and Vic moved to Lakewood, Colorado where they founded the Lutheran Church of the Master. In 1968, Vic was calledup with his unit of the Colorado Air National Guard and served in Korea. In 1969, upon Vic’s return from active-duty, Lois and Vic moved to Arvada, CO to found Calvary Lutheran Church. Lois and Vic resided in the same house for 54 years on Urban Way until Vic’s death in 2023.

A devoted homemaker and mother, Lois also pursued a professional career later in life. At the age of 40 she joined the team at St. Anthony Hospital in Denver, Colorado where she worked as a purchasing supervisor. She retired at the age of 50, dedicating her time to her family, her community, and her passions.

Lois loved her garden, especially her flower beds, taking after her mother’s love of roses. Lois and Vic were members of the Ports of Call Travel Club, which took them to several international destinations.

When grandchildren arrived, Lois and Vic attended every concert, sporting event or church function of the kids. When the family was blessed with great-grandchildren, Lois loved to sit with and read to them.  In the end, these youngsters brought enormous joy to her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4500 Wadsworth Blvd, Wheat Ridge, CO. It was Lois’s wish that attendees honor her memory by wearing colorful attire.  She felt if it were to be a celebration, then one should not wear black.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Lutheran World Relief or Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp
