Mrs. Jeanne Hughes, daughter of the late Edna and John Zenda, was born March 11, 1928 in Newark, NJ. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ, and joined the Catholic Church where she was a dedicated member.
She married David Cort Hughes (aka Cort) on September 13, 1952. She met Cort on the sandy beach of Belmar and it was love at first sight. They raised their children in Wayne, NJ then enjoyed most of their retirement in Dover, DE before moving to Colorado.
Jeanne loved life and was active in her communities and churches, and she participated in many events in the local community center in Erie, CO where she was referred to as “The Queen” by her friends, “The Bobbers”. As a result of her generous spirit and fun personality, she was loved by many. Jeanne grew up by the ocean and had a deep love for seafood. Actually Jeanne had a deep love for many foods. She will be missed by all of her fellow “crab lovers”. In fact, if you ever ran into her at a blue crab eating party, we’re sorry because she probably didn’t look up long enough to talk to you. She loved dancing and was lovingly referred to as “Jeanne, Jeanne the dancing machine”. Her sense of humor was infectious and it wasn’t rare to see her cracking jokes wherever she went. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life on June 11, 2022 at Sunrise Senior Living. She was preceded in death by her husband Cort Hughes and Son “Baby Paul”.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: LeeAnne Hazzard and Cort Hughes, and their spouses, Brett Hazzard and Vanessa Hughes. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Lauren Hughes, Brynne Hazzard and fiance Sam Kircher, Morgan Hazzard, Kenna Hazzard, David Hughes, and Russel Hughes. She will also be missed by many family members and friends including her swimming group “the Bobbers” and Godchild Robert Duffy and family.
Mass and service will be held in her honor at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lafayette, CO on July 22, 2022 at 2:00pm. All are welcome.
