James Vernon Ensign, 71, loving husband and father, passed away in Lafayette, CO on April 22, 2021 surrounded by his wife and children.
Jim was born March 22, 1950 to William and Pauline Ensign and proudly raised in Hugo, CO. He earned both his Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master’s in Education Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado. Jim lived in Louisville, CO and worked in various Colorado public school systems throughout his 30 year career as an educator. He was a teacher and coach in Hugo, an Elementary Principal in Strasburg, and went on to finish his career with the Boulder Valley School District as an Elementary Principal until retiring in 2002.
During retirement he was active in the Louisville Elementary PTA and served on the board for Monarch High School baseball.Watching sports of all levels was a favorite pastime of his, andhe especially enjoyed watching baseball in the summer. He was an avid model train restorer and took pleasure in working on histrain layout. Jim was your go to guy if you had a question on how something worked or how to fix anything and everything. Most of all he loved spending time with family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bill, his mother, Pauline, and brother, Don (Leah).
He is survived by his wife, Cheri, his three children, Steph, Seth(Michele), and Levi, six grandchildren, Jack, Kate, William, Jakob, Sylvie, and Henry, and brother Bill (Ricky).
A viewing and visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 30th at Westminster Christian Church located at 3575 W. 96th Avenue, Westminster, CO 80031. The funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. and everyone is invited to Louisville Cemetery in Louisville, Colorado following the service. All are welcome to an outside reception at the Steinbaugh Pavilion in Louisville, Colorado from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
For those unable to attend, a livestream of the church service will be available here starting promptly at 11:00 a.m. Friday. A recording of Jim's service will be available on Facebook for those unable to attend.
Donations in Jim's name may be made to Via Mobility Service of Colorado or JDRF, a research and advocacy foundation for Type 1 Diabetes.
