Gordon O. Mueller of Westminster, Colorado passed away at his home on July 6, 2022. He was 78. Gordon was a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather; devoted to his family, faith, and country.
Born March 23, 1944 in Portland, Oregon to Oscar and Erma, Gordon’s family spent some time in Wisconsin before settling in Hot Springs, South Dakota. After graduating from Hot Springs High School in 1963, Gordon attended Chadron State College in Nebraska for one year prior to enrolling in the United States Navy in May 1964. As Radioman Third Class aboard the USS Navarro and USS Eldorado ships, he served in the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He always held great pride and identity in his service to his country, and his contribution to the goal of bringing freedom to all those in the world.
Soon after leaving the Navy in 1968, he moved to Denver, where he met Elaine. They were married July 14, 1973 in Conifer, Colorado. After brief employments with Avis Rental Car, Frontier Airlines, and Bell Plumbing Company, he began what would become a 33-year career as a Postal Clerk with the United States Postal Service. As he and Elaine grew their family, Gordon chose to work nights, affording his wife the ability to stay home and his children the enjoyment of sports, scouting, mission trips and dance. The family took many road trip vacations to Hot Springs and other destinations, creating cherished memories. He retired in 2009 and spent the years after with family and friends (playing and dancing with grandchildren, sibling game nights, breakfast and coffee dates)…always bringing a little bit of quirky goofiness and laughter to everyone.
Though Gordon always put family first, he did find occasional time for himself: motorbike and bicycle rides, nature walks and drives, garage sale visits, and quiet times with a good book.
A long-time member of Arvada Covenant Church, Gordon’s faith and love for Jesus Christ was of extreme importance to him. He was at peace with the Lord and knew that God understands him.
Gordon was preceded in death by his father and mother; his brothers, Bruce and Larry; and his half-sister, June.
Gordon leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Elaine (Westminster, CO); 3 children and their families (including 5 grandchildren): Zach (Dallas, TX), Clay (Parker, CO), Deidre (Broomfield, CO); sister Caroma (Sutherlin, OR); half-brother Craig (Ashland, MT); brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces—all who love him and miss him greatly.
Private services, led by Pastor John Martz, were held in Broomfield, Colorado on July 9. A military honors interment service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Friday, August 19 from 11:15 a.m. until 11:35 a.m. The family welcomes friends to join us as we celebrate and honor Gordon that day.
