Douglas (Doug) Lawrence Murray, age 79, passed away in his home, surrounded by his family in Westminster, Colorado on Friday, April 5, 2024.
Doug was born in Ottawa, Canada to his parents, Margeret (Peggy) and Russel Murray on October 18, 1944. Douglas lived in Ottawa, Cold Lake Alberta, Princeton British Columbia, and various other areas of Canada while his father was in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Doug then moved to New Jersey for a short time, then moved to Colorado where he lived for the remainder of his life.
Doug was a HUGE hockey fan. He played, coached several teams at Hyland Hills Ice Arena and watched hockey excessively. Doug also owned a specialty hockey store off 80th and Sheridan in Westminster, Colorado called The Puck Hut from 1976-1986 with his wife, Gai Murray. They created a nice hockey community when hockey was just starting out in Colorado and made a lot of lifelong friends.
Doug Murray is survived by his daughter, Wendie Muray, his wife of 53 years, Gai Murray, his baby brother, Russell Jr. Murray, niece Cheryl Murray and family, nephew, Jason Murray, and family. Doug was preceded in death by his middle brother, Peter Murray, and parents Margaret (Peggy) E. Carter and Russel F. Murray.
Doug’s wishes were to forgo a funeral service because “they are too sad”. Instead, he wanted everyone to keep hockey in their lives and enjoy the sport he loved so much. When you watch a hockey game, especially his favorite team, The Toronto Maple Leaf’s or play a game yourself, we hope you raise a glass for Doug!
