Daniel (Dan) Calvin Medoff, 63, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2021 in Arvada, Colorado.
Dan was born on September 11, 1957 in Vermont to the late Rev. Don C (Arah Jane) Medoff and Shirley (Brink) Medoff. He grew up in Western New York and moved to Colorado in 1981 with his bride to pursue their dream of starting a family and to begin a career in Real Estate Appraising.
His talents were numerous, but Dan was most admired for his guitar playing, which he honed daily and pursued until the end of his life. Beginning in his teen years, he played in several bands in Western New York and continued to play guitar and write songs in Colorado where he was sought after for his tasteful, melodic approach and expert phrasing. His playing was incredibly dynamic and would cut through any mix in a very unique, voice-like way. He was a published songwriter and a member of the Denver based bands Heartsong and Eyes of Fire in the 80’s, many church and ministry bands including Sifa! Sifa! Africa, Bad Boys of Worship and Servant Leadership Worship Band, to list a few. In recent years, he enjoyed playing gigs with local bands Black Water, Gonzales/Shiba Band and Tyler Tracy Band. Dan was a gifted teacher and opened his home as a place for all who loved music. He ran a recording studio for several years where he mentored many young musicians and found it a great personal happiness to share his love of music with others. Dan developed countless friendships through music, and continued to play with many of the same musicians for decades.
Among Dan’s many musical accomplishments, passing his love of music onto his children was one of his greatest. He enjoyed teaching them how to play the guitar, writing songs together, jamming at home with his sons, singing harmonies with his daughters, going to concerts, watching his kids play music onstage and simply playing the guitar while his two granddaughters danced. Dan cherished every moment. His latest loves were traveling the country with his wife and hunting for vintage treasures.
Dan was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, a devoted family man and a loyal friend to many. He is missed greatly.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Amy (Ellingham), wonderful daughters, Hannah (Aaron) Alfano, Rachel (Josh) Lemon, Rebekah (Ryan) Foster, amazing sons, Joel and Joshua Medoff, and cherished grandchildren, Violet and Everly on earth and many he will play with in heaven. He is also survived by siblings, Shari (Lee) Fitzsimmons, Dwight (Thavy) Medoff and Stephanie Christie, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and beloved family members.
A Celebration of Dan’s life will be held on May 29, 2021 at Arvada Covenant Church, located at 5555 Ward Road, Arvada, CO 80002. The service will begin at 11:00 am, but live music will start at 10:30 am for anyone who would like to come for that. The event will also be live-streamed at https://vimeo.com/515854535/7a16dff7c1
