James R. Brisson, August 12, 1929 – August 8, 2018.
James R. “Jim” Brisson, 88, of Cheyenne, passed away on August 8th after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Jim was born August 12, 1929 in Minot, ND to Walter and Mabel (Edenloff) Brisson. While in college, Jim met the love of his life, Gail Hill. They were married Aug. 27, 1950, in Minot, N.D.
Jim started married life and his long career in education in Rugby, ND where he taught high school math. They moved to Cheyenne in 1955 where Jim continued his career as a teacher/administrator at Johnson Junior High; served as Assistant Principal and Principal at Cheyenne Central High School for 14 years; and served his last 3 years in Cheyenne as Director of Instruction/Career Opportunities Program (student teachers) and Principal of Cole Elementary School. Jim and Gail raised a family in Cheyenne where Jim was active in church and community activities, but he most enjoyed working with other educators in providing a top notch public school education to Cheyenne students. A move to Nebraska saw Jim serve as Superintendent of Schools in Ogallala and Scottsbluff.
Upon retirement, moving back to Cheyenne and wintering in Mesa, AZ, Jim enjoyed bicycling, golfing, dancing, and coffee with the guys.
Jim is survived by daughters, Diane Hultgren (Paul) and Julie Brisson (Lark Birdsong); two grandchildren, Britt Hultgren Ramroop (Randy), and Kajsa Hultgren (Blu Mork); five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by Gail, his wife of sixty-seven years; his son, Douglas; his sister Phyllis Larson; and his parents.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (19th & House – Cheyenne, WY).
