Thomas passed away at home on May 17, 2024, after a courageous fight with cancer. He is survived by his wife Tammy (Tamara) Miller, of Boulder, their puppy Sisu, and sisters Evelyn Fudge (Kristine and Daniel), of Northglenn, CO and Paula Gluck, (Mason) of Santa Anna, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Letha Raehal, and sister Patty Steinebach,(David, Bonnie and Steven) of Plains, MT. He had several great-nieces/nephews.
Thomas was a lifelong resident of Boulder, and attended Park and Uni Hill Elementary, Baseline Middle School, Boulder High and graduated from Fairview High in 1975. He had attended University of Colorado; completed a Bachelor of Arts, in Human Services, from Metro State, and had worked towards a Masters in Social Work.
Tom spent his youth romping around the Flatirons with neighborhood friends, playing baseball, and digging a fallout shelter in his backyard. He competed in Karate, enjoyed weightlifting and running as a young adult. Following the death of his father in hospice care, Thomas became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with a passion caring for people. The elderly people loved his listening ear and patient approach. He was instrumental in setting up Alternative Senior Care homes.
Thomas was a talented welder, worked in construction, social work, and had owned an independent home repair business. Thomas also proudly served for many years in the Army Reserve. He was a longtime friend of Bill W. and was devoted fan of the Denver Broncos, often finding colorful vocabulary when watching their games.
Thomas married his soulmate Tammy Miller, on May 12, 2001. Their romance started while working together, he as a CNA, she as an RN. He liked to say “she was my boss” when telling their story, and would add “and she still is” with a smile and a wink. Their theme song was “Have I told you lately that I love you?” which is something they demonstrated daily. They shared adventures traveling, camping, time with friends, their canine companions, and together facing the challenges that life presented. Tom will live on in the hearts of everyone who loved him.
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
