Susan was born on January 18th, 1952. Susan was a truly unique soul who never met a stranger and had the best hugs. She was wise, kind and opened her heart to thousands. As a school nurse she helped kids that were sick and also was there as a role model and confidant for all. Brave and strong, she never hesitated to share how much she cared about someone, paying good energy forward.
Susan led by example - showing love in the hardest of times. If an animal that needed saving crossed her path, she saved it - and passed this virtue along to the next generation, changing countless lives.
Susan was constantly making friends wherever her path took her, from Tennessee to South Carolina, to Colorado. Friends she had her whole life in Camden and friends she just met in Brighton, Susan would touch souls with her wise words and humor daily.
She fought Stage 4 Kidney Cancer for over a decade with unparalleled grace and determination, passing away comfortably in her sleep listening to our favorite lullabies, while I held her hand and recounted our many good memories the morning of September 5th, at 71 years old.
My mom was there for me and also for all my friends; everyone knew who to go to with tough problems, or anything at all. When you needed someone who would really listen and give you real advice, Susan Brimmer would always be there, no matter the time of day or night.
I have the phenomenal privilege to be her daughter. I've never seen anyone else go through life spreading so much positivity and accumulating so many friends and family she chose along the way. My mom was genuine, candid, and ready to laugh and smile with everyone. She effected positive change in this world in a way few can or dare to do. She taught forgiveness, to keep trying, do everything to the best of your ability, and to always be yourself, sing, and no matter what, to dance.
Susan also loved flowers and to garden. To share with those that surrounded her with love these past few years, please send arrangements where we are having her Celebration of Life: Brighton Care Center, 2025 E Egbert St, Brighton, CO 80601 or donate to the Kershaw County Humane Society.
