Sharon Witz Veenker passed away July 23, 2024 at home with family. She was born in Burlington, WI in 1941 to Henry Witz and Vivienne Westergren. They moved around the country in her early childhood and eventually settled in Barrington, IL. Sharon and her three siblings all went to Barrington High School and Sharon graduated in 1959. She then went to Sullins College in Virginia.
Politics was one of her passions and she worked in Washington D.C. in the 60s. She married Stephen Veenker and lived in Chicago for a couple years before giving birth to her son, Matthew, and moving back to Barrington. It was in Barrington she found St. Michael's Episcopal Church and grew her faith. She became part of a bigger family at the church and served in various ministries.
She worked in the insurance business for most of her career and retired to the gulf coast of Florida to be with family there. After many years there, she moved to Colorado to be with her grandsons and family.
She is survived by her sister Barbara Clute, her son Matthew and his wife Leslie, and her grandsons Colin and Ian. She is preceded in death by her sister Judy and her brother Henry.
A memorial and interment will be held at St. Michaels Church in Barrington, IL on August 31 at 10:30 am. A lunch reception will follow.
