Sawyer James Day was born June 13, 1992, in Broken Bow, Nebraska and died August 20, 2021, of an accidental death in Littleton, Colorado. Kelly, Sawyer’s mom, was a single mother for many years until she married Shaun Polak on June 17, 2000, and they blended their families.
Sawyer spent many hours with his grandma and grandpa, Linda and Jim Day, while he was growing up. When Jim and Linda moved to Westminster, Colorado, Sawyer moved in with them and attended Belleview Christian High School, graduating in 2010. Sawyer became a gifted artist while in high school. He participated in a variety of school extracurricular activities, such as school plays and soccer. His team was not particularly competitive, but he did get lots of exercise running around the field. One of the highlights of Sawyer’s high school experience was when he travelled to Costa Rica for his senior mission trip. The students helped build a church for a small village there.
Sawyer worked a variety of jobs after high school. He particularly enjoyed working outdoors in the summertime doing roofing. When work was slow, he filled in on his grandparents’ senior bowling league. He became a proficient bowler, and the seniors loved his ability to make them laugh and feel good. They thought the world of him.
Sawyer also loved camping with his grandparents’ RV club. He enjoyed helping everyone set up camp. This was greatly appreciated because the sooner everyone got settled, the sooner they could start playing games. Sawyer became an excellent card player.
Sawyer’s favorite holidays were Christmas and Halloween. He always enjoyed setting up the Christmas village on the dining room table, where everything was placed to perfection. Sawyer also enjoyed decorating the house inside and out. The more lights, the better, especially outside, was his motto. When he became too old to go trick or treating, Sawyer enjoyed answering the door and handing out candy to the little ones.
Here is a list of some of the things that Sawyer loved: jellybeans, music, driving fast, dogs and cats, driving fast, Christmas, drawing, painting, all animals, driving fast, strong cologne, Halloween, being social, and pretty girls.
Sawyer’s family and friends are broken hearted over his untimely death. Words provide little comfort to ease the pain they feel. Sawyer had the sweetest soul God could give to any human. He will be greatly missed.
Sawyer is survived by his mother, Kelly Polak; Stepfather, Shaun Polak; brother, Ryan Polak; sister, Emily Polak; and Grandparents, Jim and Linda Day. They pay special tribute to his uncle, Kevin Day, who preceded him in death (2019). May they be together now.
