Ross Delwin Hesebeck Obituary

Ross Delwin Hesebeck, 63, went to heaven peacefully at home on December 6, 2025 after a year-long battle with brain cancer.

Ross was born to George and LaVonne Hesebeck in Sheldon, Iowa on February 14, 1962. He was the middle child with an older brother, Darwin and younger sister, Darlys. Growing up in a small town, summers were spent riding bike everywhere, (including going to the city dump to see what treasure could be found) swimming and running through backyards to your friend’s house. Winters were spent outside in the snow.  When he was in high school his love of swimming led him to become a certified open water scuba diver.  Since he did not live anywhere close to the ocean, he was certified in the area lake called Okoboji.  Christmas break of his senior year, he took a dive trip to Cozumel, Mexico and from then on was hooked to the sun, beach and ocean.

After graduating high school in 1980, Ross went to a 4-year college for a semester and decided that it was not for him.  Instead he attended the local Community College and earned an Associate of Science degree.

In 1981, Ross married his love and high school sweetheart, Leisa.  In 1982 the couple welcomed their son, Ryan Joseph to the family.  They lived in a tiny apartment in Sheldon while Ross completed his degree courses and worked part-time at the local grain elevator.  In January1984, they moved to Westminster, CO so Ross could pursue a career opportunity at the Rocky Flats plant.

Ross stayed with Rocky Flats from April 1984 to January 1995.  Ross could not talk about much of what he did at Rocky, but he always said it was interesting and enjoyed the work and friendships he made.  During his time at Rocky the family welcomed their daughter, Crystal Lin, born March 1985.  Ross took an early buyout from Rocky and started his own home improvement business in January 1995, Hesebeck Home Improvement, LLC.

As a self-taught tradesman, he ran his business mainly focusing on basement finishes or remodels.  He loved the work but needed a change of pace, so in March 2016 he took a position with Classic Cabinets and Design, Louisville, CO as a Project Manager.  After almost 6 years, he was missing the independence of self-employment, so he decided to leave CCD in January 2022.  He started up Hesebeck Home Improvements again and worked as a subcontractor with his good friend Terry Wimmer of Wimmer Construction, Broomfield, CO until the day he was diagnosed with cancer in January, 2025.

Ross always had a project going somewhere.  He was an active member of Lutheran Church of Hope, Broomfield where he could be found helping to maintain the facility as well as a crew leader in the Renewing Hope building project in 2011-12.  He loved outdoor activities which included snow skiing in his younger years to snow-shoeing later on.  Family vacations consisted of trips to Iowa to visit family, cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska, Disneyland and camping.  ATV riding in Colorado and surrounding states was another must do and of course scuba diving trips and time at the beach.

He was a Midwest boy that will be remembered for his helpfulness, loyal friendships, work ethic and his dry sense of humor.  He was a beloved spouse, father, grandfather and friend.

Ross was preceded in death by his father George Hesebeck, daughter Crystal (Hesebeck) Mathisen, mother-in-law Joyce Den Hartog, sister-in-law Debra Hesebeck and grandparents.  He is survived by his wife Leisa Hesebeck, son Ryan Hesebeck (fiancée Jade Christensen), mother LaVonne Hesebeck, brother Darwin Hesebeck, sister Darlys (Hesebeck) Vander Lee (Bryan Vander Lee) , father-in-law Elmer Den Hartog, sister-in-law Cindy Hassebroek (Gary Hassebroek), sister-in-law Starla Pottorff (Kevin Pottorff), sister-in-law Joni DeKok, brother-in-law Corey Den Hartog, son-in-law Mitchell Mathisen, granddaughters Madelyn Rose, Lillyann Lin, Kathryn Violet and Juliet Tulip and step-grandchildren Aidan, Alexis, Greyson and Griffin.
