Born on August 7, 1945, in Port Chester, New York, Roman was the son of the late Anthony and Genevieve (Maczka) Oponski. He is survived by his beloved sister, Marianne "Mania" Silbereisen, and his niece, Teri Dyer. He was predeceased by his nephew, Michael Silbereisen, and his cherished companion, Charlotte Oponski.
Roman proudly served his country in the United States Army. His commitment to learning led him to earn a Master's degree in English, a field that fueled his lifelong passion for literature. An avid reader until his final days, Roman found solace and adventure within the pages of countless books.
For 44 years, Greenway Park was more than his residence—it was his home, filled with memories, stories, and the quiet routines of a life well-lived.
Roman will be remembered for his intellectual curiosity, his quiet strength, and the love he held for his family. His was a life marked by service, scholarship, and steadfast loyalty to those he held dear.
