Dr. Robert (Bob) King of Arvada, CO, died on August 5, 2024 from complications of advanced ALS.
Bob was born in North Carolina to Robert Thomas and Alda King. His family lived in New Mexico and Utah during his adolescence. Bob obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Utah and a doctorate degree from Penn State University. In 1981, he began his career as a Professor of Mining Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines, retiring as a Professor of Mechanical Engineering in 2014. Later that year he was honored as a Professor Emeritus.
Bob enjoyed the arts, particularly photography and live music. He was an avid hiker and volunteered with the Dillon Ranger District to maintain parts of the Colorado Trail. He also participated in a program to take shelter dogs with him on his day hikes throughout the Front Range.
Bob is preceded in death by his mother and father, and is survived by his wife Nancy, son Ryan (Soo), daughter Alyssa (Bobby), and grand-daughter Riley.
