Richard Armstead Obituary

Richard Leroy Armstead, age 92, passed away quietly on February 24, 2024. Born on March 11, 1931, Richard “Dick” Armstead was a lifelong resident of Boulder County and a descendant of pioneers who settled in the Boulder area in the 1800’s. He spent his early years on his Grandfather’s ranch in Lefthand canyon where he first developed his love of ranch life.

Dick was a true Cowboy who began riding in rodeos as a teen and went on to compete professionally as a bull rider in major rodeos throughout the region. He worked in stone masonry as a young man and soon started his own company, RL Armstead Masonry, which was involved in construction of many commercial buildings and residences throughout Boulder County. His final years were spent living the life he loved, working and enjoying his ranch near Erie, Colorado.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Wanda Armstead, his brother Donald Armstead, and his daughter, Rhonda Armstead Jorgensen. He is survived by his wife, Joan Armstead, his daughter, Kit DiNatale, stepsons Glen Eastin and Danny Eastin, and his sister, Betty Armstead Wasson. He also leaves behind many adoring nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial will be held in May to celebrate Dick’s life with family and friends.
