Patricia Ogilvie Huckins passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 11, 2022, at the age of 96. Born in St. Paul, MN, to Kenneth and Gertrude Ogilvie, she spent most of her childhood in Oklahoma with some time in St. Louis, MO, and Dallas, TX. Growing up, her summers were spent in Ruidoso, NM, at the family cabin by the creek, or visiting cousins in Marfa, TX. Pat studied art at the University of Oklahoma, in Tulsa, OK, where she developed her love of sculpture. She met and married Robert (Bob) M. Huckins, Sr., in Dallas, TX, and, together, they raised four children.
Her zest for life and her love of travel suited her well when they began to travel for Bob’s career. She and Bob began their marriage in Texas, moving to Sicily, Italy, in 1959 and then Antwerp, Belgium, the following year. She was very active in the American Women’s Club of Antwerp and was instrumental in starting the now thriving Antwerp International School. Pat’s vibrant, fun-loving spirit found her organizing and hosting many social events throughout the years. In 1967 they moved to New York, then New Jersey in 1970, where she was involved with the Arts Council of Princeton. She made a home wherever she was planted. After a brief time back in Texas, she and Bob retired to Ruidoso, NM, where she continued to live after he passed away in 1987.
Pat was an amazing daughter, wife, mother, friend, and artist. She knew how to host a party, cook up a storm, decorate a room, make you laugh, had a soft spot for animals, loved to sing, and had a hard time saying no to any volunteer opportunity. Always elegant, she never left the house without her signature red lipstick on. Pat is survived by a son, Robert Huckins, Jr. of Ruidoso Downs, NM, a daughter, Susan (Patrick) Campbell of Arvada, CO, sons Malcolm Huckins of Las Cruces, NM, and Sean (Karen Doherty) Huckins of Syracuse, NY, 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many extended relatives and friends. We will all miss her and cherish all the good times we have had.
A memorial service will be held at a future date at The Church of the Holy Mount, in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
