Min Yen Wu

October 1, 1940 ~ May 9, 2022 (age 81)


Min Yen Wu(吳敏彥), 81, of Broomfield, CO passed away Monday, May 9, 2022 at Vibra Long Term Acute Care Hospital in Thornton due to renal failure and after a long term battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). 

A loving son, husband, father, and brother; a distinguished scholar in the field of control systems and electrical engineering, Min Yen was born in Tainan, Taiwan on October 1, 1940. 

He attended National Taiwan University, where he attained a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1962. He received a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Ontario Canada in 1965. He received a Ph. D in electrical engineering from the University of California in Berkeley, CA in 1968. He is co-creator of the oft cited Desoer-Wu condition for the stability of closed loop systems. 

He spent his entire professional career as a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Colorado in Boulder.  His addition professorial duties, included positions at IBM, NASA, California State University Fullerton and National Taiwan University. 

Min Yen is predeceased by his parents Mr. Jeh-Chen Wu (吳介臣) and Mrs. Hsieh Yu Wu; and one sister. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Su Yu, two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Wu and Euree Kim, Tilden Wu and Sulene Goh. In addition, he is survived by two brothers and four sisters.
