Michael (Mike) Dennis Strand, age 48, passed away in Brighton Colorado on Friday, November 13th
He was born on April 22, 1972 in Denver Colorado, to Diana Strand. Years later, Diana met and married Bart Garner, Mike’s stepfather. He attended Guardian Angels through middle school, Regis Jesuit High School and Horizon High School. During his high school years, he joined Amigos De Las Americas and spent his summers in Ecuador, The DR and Costa Rica volunteering to help the locals. These immersive experiences helped him become fluent in Spanish.
Mike served four years in the Navy as a Damage Control-man on the LSD USS Portland based at Little Creek Naval Base in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He worked as a Superintendent for Allied Insulation, Metro Skyline Insulation and JAGS. Later, Mike and his father Bart owned and ran Meyer Skidmore Hardwood Floors out of Boulder.
Mike is survived by his wife, Roxanne Strand, son Nathan Strand, daughter Sydney Strand. He was surrounded in love by his brother, Ben Garner, his in laws, and many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his step father, Barton Garner and his mother, Diana (Strand) Garner.
Mike had mastered cheesy dad jokes and had a passion for motorsports. He raced 270 micro sprints with the Colorado Outlaws, blazed trails in his Polaris Razor and enjoyed attending car shows in his 1941 Jeep Willy’s. He was a member of both the Pharaoh’s and Twisted Steel Car Clubs.
Much of Mike’s adult life was plagued with chronic illness; despite the challenges his illness presented, he tried to remain optimistic and live as normal a life as possible.
Services will be held on Friday, December 4th at Fort Logan cemetery. Due to COVID restrictions, the service will be streamed.
