Michael Alfred Hines passed away on June 13, 2025 at the age of 83. Michael was born on September 21, 1941, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Maurice and Mildred Hines. He grew up in Richfield, Minnesota with his two younger brothers, Marvin and Milo.
Michael loved music, played the trumpet, and was proud to letter in band during his high school years at Richfield High School where he graduated in 1959. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota in Forestry Management. While at the University of Minnesota, he met the love of his life, Anne Mary Dean, in a literature course. They were married on January 27, 1968, in Minneapolis, and spent 52 wonderful years together.
After college, Michael served in the Army Reserve. He spent his entire professional career as a civil servant with the United States Department of the Interior. Starting in Minneapolis, his career took him across the country, from Mitchell, South Dakota, to Atlanta, Georgia, back to suburban Minneapolis, then on to Kansas City, Missouri, and finally settling in the Denver area. Through each of these moves, Michael demonstrated a commitment to his work, but it was his devotion to his family and faith that truly defined him.
Michael is survived by his three children: Todd Hines, Maureen Hines-Smith, and Rebecca Schell, as well as his granddaughter, Millie Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Mary, and his brother, Marvin.
A devout Catholic, Michael was a parishioner at Nativity of Our Lord in Broomfield, Colorado, where he found strength in his faith. He also dedicated over 25 years volunteering at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Food Bank.
