Mary Ellen Wentz Obituary

Mary Wentz, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving daughters. Her departure leaves an unfillable void in the hearts of those who knew her, yet her legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support will live on.
Born on March 10, 1938, in Russellville, Arkansas, Mary was the youngest of four children to James Garner Smith and Jessie Belle Smith. She was a woman of remarkable intelligence, quick wit, and boundless compassion. She had a rare gift for making everyone feel special—whether through her warm smile, perfectly timed humor, or the way she always knew just what to say. She was her family's biggest cheerleader, celebrating every milestone with genuine pride and joy.
Family was the heart of Mary’s world. She made an extraordinary effort to be present—attending school plays, sporting events, graduations, and celebrations. She was always the first to offer a helping hand, a comforting hug, or a listening ear. Her selflessness knew no bounds; she gave endlessly to those she loved, always with grace and without hesitation.
Mary spent most of her years in Rockwall, Texas, as a homemaker and realtor before moving to Colorado in 2022 to be closer to her daughters. Her home was a haven of laughter, love, and cherished traditions. A lifelong game enthusiast and a National Bridge Champion, she found joy in competition and camaraderie. She instilled in her family the values of loyalty, kindness, and compassion—lessons they will carry with them always.
Mary’s love and devotion live on through her daughters, Melissa Williams (Scott) and Cindy Leal (Xavier); her cherished grandchildren James Tucker (Vanessa), Taylor Tucker (Laci), Sienna Sewell, Matthew Leal, Aubrey Sewell, and Samantha Leal; and her beloved great-grandchildren Scarlett Tucker, Levi Tucker, Lincoln Tucker, Ryder Barnard, and Oakey Ann Tucker (on the way). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Wentz; her daughter, Sherry Tucker; her brothers, R.L. Smith and Doyle Britton Smith; her sister, Dolores Buffington; and her parents.
Though she is no longer physically with us, Mary’s spirit will forever be woven into the fabric of her family’s lives. Her memory will be honored in every story shared, every family gathering, and in the countless ways her love and wisdom will continue to guide those she held dear.
She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Her family will forever treasure the love, strength, and beautiful memories she leaves behind.
In accordance with Mary’s wishes, no formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice in her memory.
