Mary Katherine Pereira passed away on October 2nd, 2024 at her home in Colorado at the age of 81.

Mary is preceded by her husband of 39 years (Raymond Pereira) and infant son (Raymond Pereira Jr.). Mary is survived by her daughters, Donna Layton (husband, Kevin) and Deborah Mackey (husband, Greg), grandchildren (Ashlee, Jessica, Austin & Reanna), and great granddaughter (Reilynn).

Mary was born on February 26, 1943 in Manhattan, NY. A daughter of the late Joseph Macchio, Seaman 2c. Mary spent her adolescence and young adulthood in New York where she married the love of her life at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church. After having her two daughters, they moved to Colorado in 1972.

Mary was a homemaker, crafter, cake decorator, and artistic painter who created and sold pieces with her husband (Ray) in the Longmont Craft Fair, winning 1st place for best shop. She was known for her creative eye and ability to make beautiful crafts out of very little. For the last 16 years, Mary spent her time working in retail.

Mary was of Italian descent and carried the nickname Snookie. She had a fiery spirit and was often referred to as a pistol due to her sharp witted humor. She enjoyed collecting precious moment knickknacks, baking and decorating cakes for special occasions, crafting handmade gifts for her family, and nurturing plants and flowers as it came effortlessly to her.

In 2003, she moved to Phoenix, AZ. Her time there was short, but she adored the desert. Her favorite way to pass time was enjoying the Arizona sunshine while soaking in her community pool. She returned to Colorado in 2005 to spend time with her family where she could watch her grandkids grow. She was a consistent voice of encouragement for us to follow our dreams.

Mary will be remembered for her incredible strength, sharp witted humor, piercing blue eyes that drew infinite compliments, love for her family, crafting, dogs, beautiful paintings, vast collection of safari themed relics, plants, and exploring the outdoors throughout Colorado, as well as neighboring states with Ray.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to honor the memory of Mary Katherine Pereira by donating to the Neuroendocrine Research Foundation

A private family memorial service will be held. Celebration of life to follow with details to come
