Mary Moy Obituary

Mary Lee Moy (née Wong), of Longmont, peacefully passed away at home on April 30, 2026 at the age of 97, surrounded by loved ones.

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Mary was born and raised in Washington, D.C., the eldest of four children. From a young age, she helped support her family’s laundry business, developing the strong work ethic, resilience, and devotion to family that would define her life.

Mary earned her degree in chemistry from Mary Washington College in Virginia, becoming the first Asian American woman to graduate from the institution. She worked as a chemist for several years before embracing what she considered her life’s most meaningful role: caring for her family.

Mary met the love of her life, Young Moy, through a blind date arranged by mutual friends in New York City’s Chinatown. They wed on September 27, 1953, and together built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. During Young’s Army service, the couple spent time in Germany, sparking a lifelong passion for travel that later took them throughout North America, Europe, and China, which held a special place in Mary’s heart.

Together, Mary and Young raised seven children who remained the center of her world. Mary found great joy in nurturing those around her—through her cooking, her steady presence, and the wisdom she shared. She was especially known for her homemade eggrolls and hot wings, generous hospitality, and ability to bring family and friends together around the table.

Mary delighted in life’s simple pleasures: tending her garden, cheering on her favorite sports teams, playing poker and games with family and friends. She also enjoyed bingo and video poker during her midlife years in Las Vegas.

Raised in the Chinese Methodist Church as a child, Mary was later baptized and entered the Catholic Church in 2024, finding comfort in her faith and church community.

Mary is lovingly survived by her devoted husband of 72 years, Young Moy; her children: Norman (Christina), Stephen (Mary), Sharon (Howard), Mona (Scott), Lawrence (Vy), Rhonda (Tony), and Kenneth (Lydia); 19 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, with another on the way; her brother Henry (Helen); sister-in-law Sabrina Wong; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by her parents Lee Hock Yee and Ngock Lun Wong and brothers, George and Jerry (Ruth) Wong. Her legacy of love, strength, generosity, and devotion to family will live on through all who knew and loved her.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 3791 Pike Road, Longmont, Colorado, on May 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., with a reception to follow. A private Christian burial will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
