Marta Kurtz Obituary

Marta Gail Kurtz was born in Pittsburgh, PA the second daughter of Parke and Anne (Klingensmith) Kurtz. After spending her childhood in various places in Pennsylvania, Marta spent her first year of college at the University of Delaware. She joined her older sister Joyce (Kremer) at the Miami University in Oxford, OH, graduating with a BS degree in Elementary Education, and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She continued with numerous post graduate professional development seminars, lectures and workshops along the way earning her Administrative Credential.

Marta began her teaching career in Los Angeles, and moved north to spend most of her career with the Oakland Unified School District, ultimately retiring as a well-loved 6th grade teacher in 1995.

She enjoyed spending her time playing tennis, sailing, and traveling with friends and family all over the world, including Europe, Japan, and Kenya as well as extensively throughout the United States. She had many life-long friends both at home in California and across the country, and she enjoyed traveling to spend time with them. She became interested in the Arabian horse show scene during her retirement, garnering a new set of friends from around the world.

Marta ultimately settled in Denver, CO, joining her sister Joyce and her husband Joseph Kremer, and their children. She is survived by Joyce and Joe Kremer, Matthew and Jennifer (Tarble) Kremer and their daughter Lydia, Alf Kremer and his husband Rick Amick, and Julie (Kremer) and her husband Patrick Greb.
