Born in Denver, Marnie came into the world on February 23rd, 1965, and lived a life full of friends and adventures.
Marnie graduated from Westminster High School in 1983 and remained lifelong friends with many of her childhood classmates. She attended the University of Northern Colorado and was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation in 1987 and completed a semester abroad in London. Marnie also spent a summer as a Rotary Exchange Student in Grenoble, France.
Marnie enjoyed a varied career, starting as a recreation director for the Quechee Club of Vermont, and holding various positions with Marriott International. Her job at the Marriott Residence Inn allowed her to follow her dream of beach life, leading her to move to Southern California. The highlight of her Marriott career was being named Front Office Manager of the Year in 1992. It was in Southern California that Marnie found a tribe to call her own, forming her California family.
After an 11-year career with Mariott, Marnie decided to follow her passion of becoming an elementary school teacher. She moved back to Colorado in 2000 and pursued her teaching license from the University of Colorado at Denver. She went on to earn a Master of Arts, Curriculum & Instruction with Literacy Endorsement from the University of Colorado at Denver, a Master of Education Leadership from Regis University, and a Linguistically Diverse Educator Certificate from Colorado State University. As a teacher, she impacted the lives of hundreds of children and their families.
Marnie made it a priority to get out and see the world, she fulfilled all her bucket items including an African Safari, a cruise to Italy and Greece, gambling on the French Riveria, multiple trips to Mexico, and ending with her dream trip to Ireland last year.
Her legacy will be the deep bonds of friendship she created with so many throughout her life. She never turned down an opportunity to try something new and was always looking for the next adventure.
Marnie felt extremely blessed to have such a large group of friends and family that rallied support for her during her final weeks. She was amazed at the number of people coming to see her, with many flying in overnight just to be by her side. Marnie is survived by her siblings Brian Heil (Tammy), Karen Miller, and Sarah Heil (Carlos Lopez), as well as her niece and nephews: Christian Heil (Lexie), Eden Miller, Elias Miller, Emmet Miller, and Ezekiel Miller. She was preceded in death by her niece Lauren Heil and her parents, Dr. Jacob and Nancy Heil.
