Loren Merle Berentson, 82, of Westminster, Colorado, formerly from Westhope, North Dakota, died February 4, 2026, at home in Westminster, following years of battling COPD.
Loren was born on March 13, 1943 to Edwin and Ioane Berentson and grew up, with his six siblings, on the family farm near Westhope, North Dakota. He married Judy Sivertson in 1964. They were blessed with two children, Michelle LuRae and Robby Layne.
They moved to Bakersfield, California, back to ND, then returned to the Los Angeles area, living in LaHabra, Long Beach and Lynwood. He worked at many different jobs over the years, but mostly in the oil fields. He spent some time working near Prudoe Bay, Alaska, and many years on the off-shore drilling islands in Long Beach harbor.
The family moved to Colorado in 1974 and he worked as a welder/pipe fitter (construction) at the Coors Brewery in Golden, until he retired in 1997.
When it came to cars or anything wth a motor, he was Mr. Fixit! He spent many years rebuilding and restoring VW bugs, along with Robby’s help painting them. Then they were ready for the car shows. He was a jack of all trades and had lots of lessons learning while working on the farm growing up. Farmers had to be self suffiecient when it came to keeping everything working—and that was Loren!
He was very inventiive and always found ways to improve and make any job he got easier—his motto: work smarter, not harder! He always enjoyed going to work and never complained about those notorious Monday mornings. He received an Innovation Recognition Award from Coors Brewing Company for one of his inventions that was beneficial to the company.
He was a great story teller. He had lots of stories to tell, and especially loved talking about adventures growing up on a farm—and maybe about all the trouble he got into!
His friends loved his stories (which sometimes were somewhat exaggerated) and always told him he should be writing a book.
He was a ’60’s biker. Loved those motorcycles… and he and his California buddies would build their “choppers” and go riding up and down the coast. When he worked at Coors he would ride that chopper to work and everyone started calling him Evel. I guess he had been demonstrating some of his Evel Kinievel jumps!
Loren was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Tyrone, Jerone, Dean, Keith and Sharon, and inlaws Sig and Alice Sivertson. He is survived by his loving family; wife Judy, daughter Michelle, son Robby, grandchildren Keith, (his Sweethearts) Rayne and Sydney and great grandchildlren, Gabriel, Ollvia and Isla and his sister, Mary.
