Lois Ayala Obituary

Lois Jean Ayala, age 92, passed away at the TRU Hospice Care Center in Longmont, CO on Sunday, September 25, 2022.

Born September 19, 1930, in Holyoke, Colorado, she was theyoungest of three daughters born to Jesse William McBride and Hazel Leona (nee Paden) McBride. Lois was born and raised in Holyoke before the family relocated to Sydney, Nebraska when she was in the 7th grade.

In 1947 Lois married Eledio “Leo” Ayala and they settled their family in the Denver, Colorado area in 1965.  Lois and Leo had a total of 5 children: Ron, Jeanne, Becky, Lorie, and Amy.

Lois and Leo raised their family in Northglenn, CO and attended Northglenn United Methodist Church.  Lois was active in the church serving on the Alter Guild and ensuring the church was decorated with fresh flowers every Sunday.  Lois worked at the Lange Ski factory and for Storage Technologies.

In her spare time from being a wife and mother, Lois enjoyed crafts, quilting, sewing, and bowling with her friends in a league. She enjoyed putting together jig saw puzzles and decorating the hallways of her apartment building with the completed puzzles. Lois was an avid Rockies fan and enjoyed watching the games on TV.  She was known to chastise family (and maybe friends) for calling too early the next morning after a late-night game or if a game went into extended innings. You also were open to similar condemnation for calling while she was watching the Price Is Right, Dancing withthe Stars or even The Bachelor. Lois had an extensive collection of elephant figurines.  When asked why she collected elephants she could not ever give a reason other than to say I have so many now, why stop. In her later years she had a love/hate relationship with the squirrels that came to her balcony.

Lois is survived by her daughters; Jeanne Ayala, Becky Laman and her husband Steve, Amy Karpman and her husband Greg. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Sally, Scott, Samya, Samira, Matthew, Sarah, Hope, Jennifer, Michael, Justin, and Jordan, 20 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren as well as hersister Betty Pfau, her daughter-in-law Teresa Ayala Whitman and her son-in-law Dennis Hicks.  Lois is predeceased by her husbandEledio “Leo” Ayala (1984), her son Ronald Dean Ayala (2005), herdaughter Lorie (2017) as well as her sister June McMillan (2011).
