Shafer, LeRoy John (Butch) beloved husband, father, grandfather (papa).
75 years old of Westminster, Colorado. Born in St Paul, Minnesota July 26,1945.
Entered Eternal Rest February 12, 2021, peacefully in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. He was the second youngest of seven children born to LeRoy and Inez Shafer.
He grew up in St Paul and graduated from Harding High School. He joined the US Navy and proudly served as a jet mechanic aboard the USS Kearsarge during the Vietnam War. When he returned home he met a friend of his younger sister and they fell in love. On October 18, 1969 he married the love of his life, and best friend, Judith (Forsythe) Shafer, in St Paul, Minnesota. They had two children, and 9 grandchildren. Butch worked for Western Electric and later AT&T where he remained until retirement.
Throughout his life he loved cars, fishing, boating on the Mississippi River, most sports, but especially his Minnesota Vikings, Twins, and any hockey game that was on. He enjoyed bowling, camping, and after his job moved the family to Colorado, he liked to spend time in the mountains. When they first moved to Colorado, Butch and Judy spent almost every weekend hiking to a different lake in the mountains. He just loved to be outside! He liked to travel, especially road trips with Judy to see different parts of the US. After retirement he loved to spend time with his grandchildren, and he had a way of making his relationship with each of them special and unique. He was a proud Veteran and member of the American Legion, and Vice President of his HOA board for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents LeRoy and Inez, his parents-in-law Sherman and Minnie, brothers Bob, Dick and Don, sister Margie, brothers-in-law Glenn, Don, Ray, Wally, Roland, Chub, Phillip, Don, Ed, and sisters-in-law Delores, Betty, Eulaine, Donna, Dotty, and Audrey. Butch is survived by his wife Judy, their children Brent and Pam, son-in-law Joe, and grandchildren Marie (Christopher), Brian, Brett, Jason, Isabelle, Noel, Kaylie, Margaret, and George. He is also survived by sisters Lois and Mary, sisters-in-law Carol, Shirley, Jan, and Mary, brothers-in-law Bud and LeRoy, countless nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
