Lawrence "Larry" Marzullo Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" Marzullo, 77, passed away on April 24, 2024, in Louisville, Colorado after a long fight with Parkinson’s Disease. Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Billie, his children Jason and Brad, daughters-in-law Melissa and Cory, and grandsons Zane, Zack, and Leo.  He is also survived by his siblings, Theresa, Paul, Emil, John, Robert, Betty Ann, and Lorraine.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, Larry attended Saint Aloysius High School and St Peter’s College. He moved with his family to San Bernardino, CA in 1966 and graduated from California State Polytechnic University. Following graduation, Larry joined the United States Air Force becoming a pilot and flight instructor. He flew the Northrup T-38 Talon and attained the rank of Captain before completing his tour of duty in 1972.

After his military service, Larry embarked on a long and successful career in business that began at Union Oil Company of California in Los Angeles. In 1984, Larry joined The Bekins Company as the Chief Information Officer.  He was promoted and served for ten years as Bekins' Chief Executive Officer.  He consolidated Bekins Moving and Storage and Bekins Van Lines with headquarters in a suburb of Chicago, Hillside, Illinois.  He led the launch of HomeDirect USA which eventually sold to Penske Corporation.  Larry’s executive team remember him as a caring and charismatic leader.

Larry’s family and friends will remember him in many ways, but in particular for his love of planes and flying, food and travel, and dancing. As a teenager Larry earned his private pilot's license and purchased a 1949 Aeronca Champion World War II trainer called “The Old Crow” with a friend. They reportedly bought the plane for $1,000 and a Honda CB 450 motorcycle. He liked to perform aerobatics over the foothills of San Bernardino, California to the delight of his family and the chagrin of the neighbors.

Larry had an affinity for good food and wine.  He and his brothers would go on food quests for the best pizza, Italian beef, Chicago dogs, and fried chicken. There was always a "next place to try out.” Following his retirement in 2005, Larry and Billie relocated to North Carolina where his focus transitioned from transportation to tennis and travel.

Larry will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
