Kathleen Parrett Obituary

Kathleen Parsons Parrett passed into peace on June 20th, 2025 surrounded by her family after an extended illness.

Kathleen was born on March 14, 1951, in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania to Wilbur and Alma (Roell) Parsons.

She had a wonderful upbringing exploring the surrounding woods, running through fields, riding bikes & horses, and competitively barrel racing horses in Sarver, Pennsylvania. She attended Freeport Area School District until her family transferred to Chillicothe, Ohio. She graduated high school from Chillicothe High School in 1969. Kathleen graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in education, and in 1974, with a master's degree. While pursuing her master's degree, she chartered and operated a home for at-risk teenagers with learning disabilities.

Kathleen returned to Ohio and taught Elementary Special Education through Chillicothe City Schools. Several years later, she married Steven Parrett. They raised their family in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania on a beautiful property that they built in the country. She created overflowing flower beds and grew fruits and vegetables. She loved raising her family here, with many dogs and cats and horses.

Books and a love of reading have always been important to Kathleen. She went back to work when her children were older, as a Reading Recovery Interventionist at Thaddeus Stevens Elementary School in the Chambersburg Area School District. She loved these kids and taught them how to be good readers for life. This was one of her proudest accomplishments. She continued her career working with Harvey Payne in his Greencastle, Pennsylvania psychology practice, evaluating children and young adults with learning disabilities and neurologic disorders.

When she was in college, Kathy visited Colorado with friends and fell in love with the landscape. Eventually, she moved to Colorado in 2008, and lived in Fort Collins and the Denver area for the rest of her life. She was very happy in Colorado. Her favorite activities included listening to music and attending concerts at local venues with friends and family. She hiked in the mountains, rode her bike and loved to kayak with friends. She loved to garden in her raised beds, growing herbs and flowers.

Kathleen is survived by four children: Erin Gervais (Jeffrey) of Santa Ana, California; Megan Pearson (Joshua) of Lakewood, Colorado; Michael Parrett (Desiree) of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and Joshua Parrett of Fredericksburg, Virginia. The great joys of her life are her seven grandchildren: Samuel Gervais, Sullivan Lake, Sophia Brynner, Lincoln Parrett, Jude Pearson, Han Parrett and Quinn Pearson. She is also survived by her beloved brother, Thomas Parsons and his wife, Bonnie of Cape May Courthouse, New Jersey; their sons, Nathaniel & Ethan Parsons and their families. Cherished extended family continues to thrive in Western Pennsylvania.
