Joy Hulsizer Barrett, age 65, of Centennial, CO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Wichita, Kansas, on December 31, 1959, Joy was the daughter of William ”Bill” and Phyllis “Phyl” Hulsizer. She grew up in Broomfield, where she attended and graduated from Broomfield High School. While in high school, she was a cheerleader and a member of the tennis team. After graduating, Joy attended Colorado State University, and later earned a degree in accounting from University of Denver. Following her graduation, she worked as an accountant in both the oil and gas industry and with a telecommunications company.

Joy is survived by her husband of 35 years, William “Pat” Barrett, her mother, Phyl, sisters Janna (Craig) Boccard, Jayme (Andy) Weynand, nephews Logan and Travis (Renae) Boccard, Chase Weynand and her niece Catcher Weynand. Joy was preceded in death by her father, Bill. Joy loved camping. She enjoyed the challenge of reserving campsites as the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Day so that she, family members, and friends could spend time at Horsetooth Reservoir and other campsites in Colorado. Along with her beloved Bernese Mountain Dogs and husband Pat, she would spend weeks enjoying her time on the water and in the outdoors in their RV at some of her favorite recreation sites around the state. Outside of camping season, Joy had an insatiable appetite for reading, rousing board games, and puzzle building. Whenever the opportunity presented itself, she would spoil her nephews, niece, and those closest to her.

A small Celebration of Life was held for Joy on October 19, 2025. Joy will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
