John Monahan Obituary

John “Jack” T. Monahan, of Westminster, Colorado, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on June 22, 1935, in Aurora, Illinois, he was the beloved son of John and Frances Monahan.

Jack dedicated his life to education, beginning his teaching career in 1961 at Mapleton Public Schools, where he was a much-loved elementary teacher until his retirement in 1990. His kindness, humor, and warmth left a lasting impression on his students, colleagues, and all who knew him.

On March 6, 1971, Jack married the love of his life, Charlotte Robertson, with whom he shared over five decades of love and laughter. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising their sons Kevin (Stephanie) and Brendan (Kathy). He was a devoted grandfather to Connor and Amelia, who brought him endless joy. Jack had a deep love for baseball, both as a lifelong fan of the game and as a proud grandfather cheering on Connor from the stands. He also found immense happiness watching Amelia’s dance recitals, always beaming with pride at her performances.

Jack is also survived by his sister Maureen (Loren) of Wichita, Kansas, and his brother Gary (Maria) of Lafayette, Colorado, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.

Jack had a gift for making people laugh, a gentle and kind spirit, and a passion for life’s simple pleasures. He loved playing golf with his wife, children, and friends, traveling to new places, and sharing stories that could light up a room. A poet at heart, he often wrote heartfelt verses for his wife, sons, and grandchildren on special occasions. His words, wisdom, and warm presence will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for later this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that gifts in Jack’s memory be made to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church (10828 N. Huron St., Northglenn, CO) or to a charity of your choice.

Jack’s kindness, laughter, and love will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
