John Kesig Obituary

John was born on June 12, 1935 in Alliance, Ohio to John and Iris Kesig.  He passed away January 16, 2021.

John grew up in Alliance and graduated from Alliance High School in 1953. His college “career” began at his beloved THE Ohio State University where he started his lifelong love for the Buckeyes. He would say “my favorite team is the Buckeyes and whoever is playing Michigan!”

On January 8, 1956, he married Sandra Joan Sanborn. He was very excited each year to brag about the fact that they had been married for so long….they celebrated their 65th anniversary just one week before John left us.

The family moved to Kettering, Ohio where he worked for NCR by day and went to school by night to get his degree from University of Dayton. All the while, taking the time to spend time with and attend activities of their three kids, Dave, Jeff, and Jill. His sons, Dave and Jeff, preceded him in death…now they are together again.

Another move took the family to Cambridge, Ohio where John continued his work as a packaging engineer for NCR. After 7 years, another move to the Knoxville, TN area, then to Colorado at the end of 1982.  This is where the firm roots took hold and other than vacations, John and Sandy were in Colorado for the long haul!

After moving to Colorado, John started his own company, Packaging Development Service, Inc. in Broomfield.  He opened in 1990, Jill began working with him in 1995 and he retired in 2000. He took his retirement very seriously, being able to “play” for the rest of his life!

John was an exceptional family man…he was born to be a dad…always “had his family’s back” whether it was in good times, not-so-good times, or anything in between.  He was the best husband, dad, gpa, and eventually “ggpa”…practice just kept making him better and better! They traveled across the country several times per year to see their grandchildren and great grandchildren…it never occurred to them that it was every “too far” away! His love was truly unconditional!

John enjoyed people….and had long-lasting friendships from every place they had lived. He had an infectious smile, a hearty laugh, and told the worst jokes in such an animated manner!  No matter how bad the jokes were, he was always asked to “tell the cat joke again”…and he would tell it with gusto again….anything for the grandkids!  He was also very active in the El Jebel Shrine.  He had presence in many of the groups within the Shrine, but especially loved his parade cars.  John and Sandy traveled the world together, sometimes on their own, sometimes with a group of friends.  They also enjoyed playing games – mostly at the Broomfield Senior Center where they met yet another circle of friends!  They were serious about having fun with family, friends, and activities!

“The beauty of a life well-lived never dies….”  John will live on in our hearts, on our minds, and in our actions.
