John Charles Henry was born March 2, 1935 in Newark, New Jersey, the son of Thomas and Irene (Owens) Henry. John spent his childhood and young adult life in Newark with his older brother Tom and younger brother Joe.
In 1958, he married Mary Theresa Masterson, also of Newark, New Jersey and relocated several times, including Upstate New York; Cleveland, Ohio; Englishtown, New Jersey; Oakville, Ontario, Canada; finally settling in Broomfield in 1985. John and Mary had 62 wonderful years of marriage, before her death in December 2020. John is survived by his son John (Elaine); and daughters Linda (Kevin), Caroline, Sue (Jeff) and Mary (Jay).
John was blessed with 18 grandchildren: Linda and Kevin’s children: Katie, Megan, Ashley, Delaney and Bailey; John’s children: Maddie, Carrie and Kelli; Caroline’s children: Will, Bridget and Teddy; Sue’s children: Jack, Charlie, Holly and Henry (Susan); and Mary and Jay’s children: Kevin, Andy and Quinn; along with seven great grandchildren: Logan and Macy (Maddie and Levi Hamilton); Miles and Evie (Megan and Chris Oberosler); Clifford and Leonard (Kelli and Stryker Lane); Denzel (Delaney and Noel Prince).
John spent much of his career in transportation logistics, working both for UPS and FedEx, joining the latter in 1971 as part of the original founding management team. John left corporate life in 1985 and started his own local delivery business, Transamerican Couriers. Not one to sit still, John went on to become a member of the teaching staff at Front Range Community College, teaching business management classes. He eventually joined the staff at the North Metro Small Business Development Center, where he worked until November 2025, helping many local business owners start and grow their businesses.
John loved spending time with his family and supporting his children and grandchildren at their many events and endeavors. He was a huge fan of sports and was very adept at speculating and wagering on any kind of competition. He rooted tirelessly for his New York Giants and was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Seton Hall men’s basketball program. The Jersey Shore held a special place in his heart, and he spent many summers on Long Beach Island. You could find John on the golf course, at a casual poker game with his buddies, or chatting up his fellow Broomfield residents. He was frequently described as a kind and wise soul, with an amazing wit and sense of humor. He will be missed by so many.
