Obituary

Joanne Marie Bieniek (Purcell), 84 years young, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 16th, 2021 in her home in Broomfield, CO. She was born in Maywood, IL on Valentine's Day, February 14th, 1937 where she was the youngest of three children (Robert Jr. and Genevieve both deceased) of Robert and Genevieve Purcell.

Joanne was an active child who loved to play sports while growing up. She graduated from Proviso East High School in Maywood, IL in 1955. She started working as an office clerk at Commonwealth Edison, where she met Leonard Norten, Jr. and they were married in 1957. They had three children, Len, Stephen and Linda (deceased in 1976) and raised their family in Bensenville and Addison, IL. where they had many friends that remained close for decades.

After a divorce, Joanne started work at the Village of Addison where she met Edward Bieniek and they were married in 1980. She then started working at the American Heart Association until she retired. Joanne and Ed lived a happy life together in Wood Dale, IL and later moved to Scottsdale, AZ until Ed passed in 2005.

Joanne moved to Colorado in 2018 to be closer to her family, including her granddaughter, Kelsey Norten. The family has many fond memories over the years including trips to Ireland, Scotland and Mexico. Joanne, Stephen, Len and his wife, Trish, would get together every Sunday during football season to watch the Chicago Bears, eat Chicago-inspired food and spend quality time together.

She was loved, and will be missed by many close friends in Illinois, Arizona and Colorado.

Joanne is survived by sons, Stephen and Len, daughter-in-law Trish, and granddaughter Kelsey.
