Jerry Gullickson Obituary

Loy J. (Jerry) Gullickson, age 98, passed away on November 10, 2020 surrounded by his Colorado family and caregivers.

Jerry was born August 30, 1922, in Plentywood, MT, to Oscar and Clara (Helland) Gullickson. They later moved to Seattle and then Billings, MT where he spent much of his life. He graduated from Billings Sr. High in 1940 and then entered Billings Polytechnic Institute, what is now Rocky Mountain College. At a Saturday matinee, he watched the Japanese in- vasion of Mongolia, which inspired him to join the military. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, spring of 1942, where he began flight instruction. His flight training began at the tiny Belgrade, MT airport with a civilian instructor who owned the plane he trained in. He mastered flying several different aircraft, and was appointed Second Lieutenant, U. S. Marine Corps as a bomber pilot. Jerry served as a flight instructor throughout World War II, left active duty as First Lieutenant then served in the Reserves of the U.S. Marine Corps till honorably discharged as Captain in 1958.

He married Beverly Paine, Nov. 27, 1944. Post war they resided in Montana and Colorado, where he retired from GTE Sylvania, Sales. Jerry liked to travel, was a meticulous craftsman, handyman and loving family man and his dry sense of humor endeared him to all.

Beverly preceded him in death on Feb. 01, 2012. Also preceding him were his parents as well as brothers Oscar Jr. and his wife, and Clayton Gullickson.

He is survived by his children: Jeri Lynn (Jerry) Miller, Sally (William) Jellison, Vicki (Mike Jankovsky), and Steve (Carol) Gullickson; as well as by grandchildren Kim, Kori, Jodi, Darcy, Randy, Casey, Marilyn and Sarah, 12 great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law, Joan Gullickson as well as several nieces and nephews.

Services to be held at a later date.
