Jerald Ivan Kupperberg Obituary

Jerald “Jerry” Ivan Kupperberg, MD, passed away peacefully in Colorado, where he had lived for the past three years, surrounded by love. He was 76 years old.

Jerry moved to Colorado to be closer to his daughters—Amelia, Juliana (Shawn), and Ella—as well as his three cherished grandchildren: Everett, Lydia, and Wells who brought him immeasurable joy. He adored his daughters, their animals, and the lives they built. He was deeply invested in everything they cared about, showing up fully, always.

Jerry and his beloved wife, Mary, created an idyllic childhood for their daughters. Family was always first and deeply valued. Their girls were immersed in nature and small-town values, raised in a historic home filled with warmth, curiosity, and love. Together, Jerry and Mary made space for adventure and learning through skiing trips, travel, outdoor exploration, and shared experiences that shaped a life rich with meaning. Jerry showed his devotion in countless ways—driving to every lesson, warming frozen feet after winter rides, adapting the barn for horses, building a woodland path for his pregnant wife, and crafting a stained-glass treehouse—because beauty, magic, and care mattered deeply to him.

A visionary, Jerry was far ahead of his time. He practiced medicine for more than 35 years out of his rural home, specializing in pediatrics and home care. Earlier in his career, he spent 15 years working in inner-city clinics at Providence Health Center. His curiosity, compassion, and open mind led him to explore natural medicine, homeopathy, and a deeply holistic approach to healing.

Jerry’s door was almost always open. During a hurricane, neighbors with a feverish newborn pounded on his door in the middle of the night, and Jerry examined the baby by flashlight without hesitation. He traveled the world studying homeopathy and natural medicine, then freely shared what he learned. He held small talks in living rooms and community halls, charging little or nothing, simply wanting others to learn and heal. He was generous with his wisdom, his insight, and his time, helping thousands of people navigate their paths toward health.

Jerry lived with childlike enthusiasm and joy. He loved the outdoors—gardening, skiing recklessly through moguls and trees, kamikaze sledding, mountain biking, and exploring nature in all seasons. He loved ping pong, harvesting honey, and playing as hard as he worked. He was an avid gardener and found deep peace with his hands in the soil.

Many knew his serious, devoted side, but fewer saw his lightness—his silliness, playfulness, and youthful spirit.

To his beloved wife, Jerry was far more than a husband. He was a friend, a confidant, and a safe haven. Together, they embraced life through gardening, outdoor adventures, laughter, and love. They raised three remarkable daughters who will forever carry the echo of his light. Through them, his brilliance lives on; through them, his teachings endure.

He will be missed every day.

Rest in power.
Rest in peace.
Rest in the eternal knowing that you are loved.

“I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine.”
