James “Jim” Pinkussohn was born in New York City on October 2, 1949, and lived a life defined by curiosity and connection. He will be remembered for his love of cooking, his passion for The Grateful Dead, and the genuine interest he took in everyone he met.
Jim graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1968, and was proud to have earned the rank of Eagle Scout. This continued to shaped his character and sense of responsibility for years to come. He graduated from Roger Williams College (Bristol, Rhode Island) in 1972 and moved to Denver shortly afterwards.
Jim's fun-loving spirit led him to attend the legendary Woodstock Festival, an experience that solidified his love of music.
Jim was always eager to hear about the latest restaurants opening in Denver and he never stopped learning about new ingredients, flavors, and cooking techniques. Food was one of the ways he connected most deeply with others, and his kitchen was a place of warmth, conversation, and creativity. Professionally, Jim enjoyed a successful 40-year career as a real estate broker with ReMax Alliance, where he was known for his dedication, honesty, and the lasting relationships he formed.
Jim passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, surrounded by his family and closest friends, of course listening to the Grateful Dead. As “Uncle John’s Band” played, Bobby Weir welcomed him home. A moment that was devastatingly beautiful for those surrounding him.
Jim is survived by his two children, Jay Pinkussohn and Macy McDonald; his son-in-law, Shawn McDonald; and his beloved grandchildren, Aubrey Alexandra and Sadie James. He is also survived by his brother, John Pinkussohn; John’s wife, Beth; and their children, Aron and Jamie.
Plans are currently being made for a Celebration of Life to be held in the upcoming weeks.
Jim’s spirit will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
