James Jennings Obituary

James Jennings, a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on April 22, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with his health. He was born on November 26, 1949, to James and Elizabeth Jennings in Medina, NY, where he was raised and spent his formative years.

Jim's early years were filled with the beauty of Lake Ontario, which nurtured his deep love for the water. He found solace and joy on the glistening shores, embracing various water activities such as boating, water skiing, and sailing. His adventurous spirit extended beyond the water's edge, as he cherished anything outdoors. Jim's love for nature led him to explore hiking trails, cycling, skiing and immersed himself in the beauty of camping.

At the age of 11, Jim's passion for boating and his commitment to safety led him to graduate from the Medina Conservation Club boating safety course. This early accomplishment reflected his determination and sense of responsibility, which would guide him throughout his life.

In December of 1974, at the age of 25, Jim embarked on a grand adventure with his best friend, Jay Beaton. They left behind their hometown of Medina and packed up their vehicles, setting out west without jobs or any care in the world. Their free spirits and sense of wanderlust led them to settle down roots in the beautiful state of Colorado. The majestic landscapes and boundless opportunities for outdoor exploration captivated Jim's heart, and he knew he had found a place to call home.

As Jim's journey through life continued, he experienced the joy of becoming a father. His daughter, Katy, became the light of his life, and together they shared in the wonders of the world. Jim passed on his love for skiing to Katy, and their ski trips became treasured moments of bonding and laughter. Their camping expeditions further strengthened their connection, creating a tapestry of memories that will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

Jim's warm and inviting personality drew others to him effortlessly. With his infectious smile and kind-hearted nature, he touched the lives of many. His generous spirit and unwavering support made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jim leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. He was a doting father to his daughter, Katy Jones, and son-in-law, Daniel Newman. Jim's devotion extended to his grandchildren, Brianna and Rylan Jones, who brought immeasurable joy and pride to his heart. He cherished every moment spent with his family, creating lasting memories and imparting his wisdom upon them. Jim is also survived by his sisters, Ann McDonald and Bonnie Corkum, and his brother, Tim Jennings.

As we say our final goodbyes to Jim, let us hold onto the memories we shared and the love he bestowed upon us. His legacy will continue to live on through the lives he touched and the values he instilled in his loved ones.

A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at on 6.3.23 at his daughter’s home.

James Jennings will forever be remembered as a man of great integrity, an adventurous soul, a loving father, a doting grandfather, a devoted brother, and a dear friend. May he find eternal peace in the embrace of the outdoors, the waters & the snow he so dearly loved, as his memory lives on in our hearts.
