Irene passed away at home in Broomfield, CO. on November 6th, 2025.  Irene was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Kjersgaard. Born on April 23rd 1935, she was raised in Perth Amboy, New Jersey; graduated from Metuchen HS and continued her education at American University in Washington DC. It was at American University that Irene met the late Bill Roberts her much loved husband and friend.  Irene and Bill were married 61 years at the time of Bill's death in 2019.

Upon graduation from college, Irene lived in Greenwich Village New York.  She loved to tell stories about the Village and the people she met including Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller who lived nearby.

In the early 70s, Irene and Bill moved to Colorado and remained there for close to 50 years. Irene loved everything Colorado. She spent her career as an elementary school teacher. She loved education both giving it and receiving it. Road Scholar was one of her favorite tour groups. She was always curious and loved to learn new things. Her interests and hobbies were endless.  She loved books, travel, yoga, long walks with the dogs, ballet, opera, cooking (and eating!).  She was a dog mom to many fur babies throughout the years.

Irene had a strong sense of volunteerism.  She enjoyed volunteering at the Denver Art Center and local libraries.

She dearly loved her two sisters, Doris Thomas of Metuchen NJ, and Virginia Nielsen of Perth Amboy, NJ.  Both predeceased. She enjoyed visits and long phone conversations with her great niece, Kerri Nielsen Burlew, who she loved very much.

Irene will be missed by many friends and family members especially her niece, Brenda Thomas, who spoke with her almost every day and her precious dog Pesto!

A memorial service will be planned in the future.
