Helen Marjorie Goodfield “Mom” was born on November 4th, 1935 to parents Mary Shapiro Obstfeld and Lou Obstfeld, younger sister to Sheila Obstfeld. She passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023 at the age of 88. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alan Goodfield. She was a mother to Lisa, Suzanne, Karen and Nancy. She is survived by grandchildren Casey, Elena, Gaylen, Etanne, Grace and Luka and great grandson Tanner.
Mom lived outside the box, throwing her heart into whatever she endeavored. She did not care that friends had to enter the living room by a sliding pond. She was a Mom and delighting her children was more important. When she decided to get her P.h.D., it was not enough to graduate. She graduated first in the state of New York. After taking a shine to old Judy Garland movies, we would wake up in the middle of the night and meet in the living room at 3AM to watch Singing in the Rain or Meet me in St.Louis back in the days before the internet, applauding enthusiastically as if the performers could hear.
Mom once said, “We all live alone within our own skin and those moments when we feel truly connected are magical.” No one could understand more exactly, repeat more precisely what a person was feeling. She could make us laugh to the point of oxygen deprivation. You will always be a part of us and we will feel your presence each time we see a beautiful rose (her favorite flower) or hear a Bach concerto. We love you, Mom.
