Gary Lynn Romines, 68, passed away on August 18, 2023, at his home in Denver, Colorado.
Gary was born on August 27, 1954, to Geraldine Blackburn Romines and Mackie J. Romines in Altus, Oklahoma. Gary graduated from Altus High School in 1972. In June of 1973, Gary married Danette Sue Simpson. They moved to Yuma, AZ where their first child, Shon David Romines was born. After moving back to Altus, OK for a short period, the new family found themselves in Meeker, CO where they would welcome their daughter Brandi Michelle Romines. The family lived in Colorado for many years.
Gary loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and hiking. He was very creative and had many hobbies throughout his life including building the family’s first home in Buena Vista, CO, baseball coach, woodwork, collecting coins and artwork are among a few. Gary collected books and art. His favorites were Stephen King and Bev Doolittle. His love for Native American rituals and art ignited a fire for him to collect Bev Doolittle and other Native American pieces of artwork. He read all of Stephen King’s books and was very proud of his collection. He also loved technology and computers. Gary was a computer gamer and enjoyed learning new things all the time.
Gary worked for AT&T for 32 years as a telephone man (lineman). His career allowed him to live in many beautiful places and he enjoyed his job. He was a very hard worker and showed his children what hard work means. After many years of living in Colorado, in 1998, the family moved to Oregon. Gary loved Oregon and he thrived there for many years. Gary, Shon, and Brandi eventually made it back to Colorado where he lived the remainder of his life. Gary loved his grandchildren, and he was a wonderful Grandpa to them.
Gary was predeceased by his beloved wife, Danette Sue Simpson Romines, his mother, Geraldine Blackburn Romines, his father, Mackie J. Romines, and his great Grandmother and Grandfather, Addie Bell, and Reverend Carl Blackburn. He is survived by his two children, Shon David Romines and Brandi Romines McKenzie, their spouses, Alison Romines, Scott McKenzie, and Granddaughters: Sophie Danielle McKenzie, Meara Mae McKenzie, and Brooke Danette Romines and brother David Earl Romines.
We love you Gary, you will be dearly missed.
The family will be having a private celebration of life for Gary on his birthday 08/27/23. Funeral services will be held in Altus, Oklahoma at a later time. If you wish to send flowers to Shon or Brandi’s homes, it would be welcome.
