Hampton Virginia- Frederick Luke died Friday Feb 7 at his home in Colorado surrounded by loved ones. Fred was a graduate of Hampton High class of 1946. After high school he served 3 years in the Army Air Corps most of which was spent in Japan.
Fred came back to Hampton and was a State Pilot for the port of Hampton Roads for 37 years.
He was proud to be instrumental in the pilot association’s transition to working from a shore station, ending a centuries long practice of maintaining a pilot boat off Cape Henry.
He enjoyed sailing the James River, playing tennis and working in the yard, all activities he was able to do into his mid eighties. He spent the last years of his life in Colorado to be close to family. Fred is survived by his children Linda, Nancy and Eric and their families.
