Frank Smith, 94, of Broomfield, Colorado, passed peacefully at his home with his family at his side. Frank died just after hours Frances, his wife of 73 years.
Francis (Frank) was born in Long Island City, NY to Mary Reilly. Frank married Frances (Fran) Smith June 26, 1948 at St. Patrick’s Church, Long Island City, NY.
Frank graduated from the New York School of Printing in Manhattan, New York City. He served in the Navy 1944 to 1946 aboard the USS Sommers, Destroyer DD381 and submarine service in New London, CT during WWII.
Frank joined IBM in 1951 in Poughkeepsie, NY and moved to Boulder, CO in 1965. He was an Asset Protection Project Manager and retired after 40 years of service. Frank coached Little League and Pony League. Frank was a board member for 6 years with Attention Homes helping troubled youth and started the Colorado chapter of the Partners Program and served as it's first President.
Frank and Fran Smith were instrumental in finding placements for refugees fleeing Vietnam including opening their hearts and home to a family of 5 who lived with the Smith Family. This included Nam Vu who we all consider an adopted son. Frank was responsible for establishing the WWII license plates in Colorado.
Frank and Fran were active until just weeks before passing. Frank’s final days were spent on hospice at home with Fran, his loving wife.
A Memorial Mass honoring both Frank and Frances will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. There will be a time of fellowship with a reception to follow.
