Floyd Olson Scharlemann (89), a man of faith, a loved and loving husband and father, and a wonderful singer, claimed the promise of his baptism on January 22, 2026 in Boulder, Colorado.
Floyd was born on August 14, 1936, in Lake City, Minnesota to Ernst and Johanna Scharlemann. Floyd had twelve brothers and sisters: Martin Scharlemann, Erwin Scharlemann, Esther Haman, Alfred “Mook” Scharlemann, Ferdinand Scharlemann, Edith Billig, Erna Scharlemann, Edna Lehman, Herbert Scharlemann, Robert Scharlemann, Evy Meyer, and Evelyn “Winnie” Bentz. Floyd graduated from the University of Minnesota earning a bachelor's degree. On May 5,1956, in Lake City, Minnesota, Floyd married Phyllis Wiebusch. They had four children: Brad, Bard, Bryce, and Michelle.
Floyd was a hard worker and a strong Lutheran. He worked primarily in the automotive industry his entire life. He retired in August of 1999. Floyd was an active member of Lutheran Church of Hope, and his amazing voice enhanced the Chancel Choir for many years. He had a great sense of humor and always cheered everyone on in their journey of faith.
Floyd is predeceased by his parents, Ernst and Johanna Scharlemann; his siblings: Martin Scharlemann (brother), Erwin Scharlemann (brother), Esther Haman (sister), Alfred “Mook” Scharlemann (brother), Ferdinand Scharlemann (brother), Edith Billig (sister), Erna Scharlemann (sister), Edna Lehman (sister), Herbert Scharlemann (brother), Robert Scharlemann (brother), Evy Meyer (sister), Evelyn “Winnie” Bentz (sister); his wife, Phyllis Scharlemann; and his son, Brad Scharlemann.
Floyd is survived by his other children and their spouses: Bard Scharlemann (Linda), Bryce Scharlemann (Debora), and Michelle Scharlemann. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren: Jennifer Scharlemann-Ingram, Lisa Valenzuela, Sarah Scharlemann, Bard Scharlemann Jr., Heather Carr, Kelly Zoetewey, Katelyn Madigan, Ryan Scharlemann, Madison Lee, Justin Scharlemann, Joe Kelliher, and Sean Kelliher. Additionally, Floyd is survived by 23 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Floyd’s Liturgy of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope. In lieu of flowers, please direct any gifts in Floyd’s Memory to the Building Hope for the Future Fund at Lutheran Church of Hope by clicking www.lchope.org/give.
