Eric Lonnberg Obituary

Eric Donald Lonnberg died on May 11, 2022 in Erie, Colorado after a courageous 12-year battle with cancer. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Eric was born on November 16, 1972 to Donald and Joan Lonnberg in Medford, Massachusetts. He is survived by his wife Heather and their beloved children Kayla, Samantha and Cameryn, his parents Donald and Joan, sister Kristin and dog Stella.

As a child, Eric learned lessons that would sustain him throughout his life, most notably a deep appreciation for family and an enduring passion for Boston sports. He made friends easily and loved being outdoors. His kindness was a given and his laugh a gift. Eric’s innate warmth and unassuming disposition made him one of the easiest and most enjoyable people to be around.

After graduating from Medford High School in Medford, Massachusetts, he attended Middlesex Community College, earning an associates degree in Business. Shortly thereafter he made the life changing decision to move out west to Boulder, Colorado. There he truly came into his own, establishing his professional career in finance, exploring new passions, and making new friends who would become family.

He met the love of his life, his wife Heather, in 2000. They proved to be an undeniably perfect match and were married in Lyons, Colorado in 2004. They welcomed their first daughter, Kayla, in 2007, followed by Samantha in 2009 and Cameryn in 2012. Eric’s love of his family was boundless, and it mirrored his passion for life. There was nothing he enjoyed more than watching his daughters explore the outdoors, play volleyball, navigate the ski slopes or discover new activities.

Eric could be the life of the party as well as a close confidant. Both roles suited him well. Eric spent his free time camping, snowboarding, golfing, going to concerts, and laughing at any and every opportunity. He fulfilled a lifelong dream when he attended the Masters golf tournament in 2015 with his father in Augusta, Georgia.

Eric’s affinity for his hometown teams never diminished, as the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and Patriots all rewarded him with championships during his years in Colorado. And he wouldn’t hesitate to let you know it. His appetite was legendary. No one could polish off a breakfast burrito or an overflowing Thanksgiving plate of food like him. He was full of surprises, as evidenced by his taste in music. You were just as likely to hear the Beatles and the Grateful Dead on his playlist as you were NWA and Lizzo, Frank Sinatra and one of his favorites, the Beastie Boys.

Diagnosed with melanoma in 2010, Eric fought like a champion and inspired many throughout his journey. Family and friends gathered around him in his final days to share their overwhelming love. Eric will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father, loving son, caring brother, and cherished friend.
