Dorothy L. Tompkins Obituary

Dorothy Ann Loe Tompkins was born April 15th, 1936 in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed from this world on July 2nd, 2024 in Denver, Colorado. She is survived by her three sons, Pendleton Clay Tompkins (Simone), Eric Loe Tompkins (Debi), Bradley Stuart Tompkins (Catherine), as well as five grandchildren: Hailey (Will Myers), Chase, Kyle, Courtney, Nicole, and one great granddaughter, Evie Myers.

She is preceded in death by her parents Grady Monroe Loe and Dorothy Deas Loe of Arcadia, Louisiana and a granddaughter Kelsey Jone Tompkins.  She graduated from Arcadia High School before attending Judson College, Baylor University and Centenary College. She married Luther P. Tompkins in Arcadia. She later earned a Master’s degree in Librarianship and Information Management at Denver University.

A fiercely independent woman, Dorothy was a lover of the arts, nature, and the symphony. She enjoyed literature, music, the ballet, painting, and skiing. Although a native of Louisiana, she found her home in the Rocky Mountains where she lived the majority of her life.  A steadfast Episcopalian and member of St. John’s Cathedral in Denver, she maintained a life-long devotion to her faith.   Services will be held at St. John’s Cathedral on Tuesday,  July 9th, 2024 at 11:30 am.

Always believing that “flowers are for the living”, any donations in her memory may be made to the Denver Botanical Gardens or St. John’s Cathedral, where she will be interred.
