Dorothy Monk, 91, died on Thursday, April 8 at her home in Boulder, Colorado. She was born and raised in Dillon, Montana, where she graduated from high school, and then graduated from college in Salt Lake City.
She worked at Los Alamos, New Mexico on the first stored program computers, where she met James Donald "Don" Monk, and they were married in 1953. They moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1962, where she earned a Masters in Psychology from the University of Colorado. She worked for the State of Colorado as a statistician, then as a computer systems analyst at the University of Colorado. She retired in 1995. She is survived by her husband, Don, her daughter Andrea Monk of San Diego, California and her son, Steve Monk, of Boulder, Colorado.
An informal gathering to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held outside at 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 25, at the Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder. Friends and family are welcome to come, and if they wish, to share stories about Dorothy. We'll meet at the North side of the park, located east of 28th St. on Kalmia Ave. in Boulder.
